Patricia Stone grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney. After leaving school she worked in Sydney and London as a legal secretary. In 1990, Stone graduated with a double major in English Literature from the University of New England, where she also studied Classical Literature and Aboriginal History. She has been a young people's teacher with the Salvation Army for many years, and has also been a soldier with Bateman's Bay Corps and Corps Secretary.
