Lorraine Milne attended Ballarat Teachers' College, gaining her her Trained Primary Teacher's Certificate, and was awarded an extended studentship to the Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University, where she completed third year with first class honours. She has worked as a composer, songwriter, musician and musical director in theatre and radio for children and adults. Milne was a founding member of the Australian Performing Group at the Pram Factory, Melbourne and the Melbourne Writers Theatre, and has also worked at Playbox, La Mama, The Church, Organ Factory, VCA Drama School, Theatreworks, Athenaeum, Universal Theatre, Handspan, Polyglot, Perth, Flinders and Deakin Universities, Rusden Drama Department.

Milne's theatre collaborations also include : The Feet of Daniel Mannix (1971) by Barry Oakley ; The Les Darcy Show (1974) by Jack Hibberd.
