BiographyHistory

Elizabeth Riddell moved to Australia from New Zealand in 1928 to work on the Sydney Truth. Riddell won a Walkley Award for a series of articles on the brewing industry, then moved to England in 1935 to work for the Daily Express. During World War II, she worked for the Daily Mirror in New York, London and Europe. In the years after the war she worked for several newspapers before becoming a freelance reviewer and feature-writer.

Due to the long silences between publications, Riddell's poetry has received little critical attention, but the form and content of her poems have drawn comparisons with Judith Wright and Kenneth Slessor.
