BiographyHistory

David Leslie was an English novelist who, for some years, lived in Australia, where he was educated. The Green Singers (1958) has an Australian setting and although Winger's Landfall, a book penned under the pseudonym Stuart Lauder, has an Australian setting, the action moves through Ceylon to Great Britain as the book is set on a liner. The author's note from The Green Singers states 'The Green Singers is a work of fiction; all its principal characters, place and incidents are purely imaginary. I would like to make it plain that Montagu Battye's story in no way reflects my own opinions and experiences of Australia, and I should not like my Australian friends to think otherwise.'
