Hwang Willing was born in Hunan Province, China. He emigrated to Taiwan in 1938. There he studied law, became a newspaper editor, secretary of the Chinese Poets Association and had four books published. Since emigrating to Sydney he has been very active in the Chinese-language literary community and has been President of the Australian Chinese Writers' Association.
