Jane Franklin Louisa King ( McLagan) published her volume of poetry Lads of the Southern Cross while still a student teacher at the Teacher Training college in Hobart. After completing her training, King taught at Richmond and Albeura Street primary schools from 1917-1920. King continued to publish short stories, and later a novel, Sylvia Morrow, under her maiden name. She was a foundation member of the Tasmanian Fellowship of Writers and president for six years. In 1966 the Fellowship made a presentation to her to mark the publication of her hundredth story.
