BiographyHistory

The bookselling, publishing and circulating library business established by William Maddock in Sydney in the early 1860s. Maddock's premises at 383 George Street, which was back-to-back with the warehouse of Edwards, Dunlop & Co., was one of the best-known Sydney booksellers and libraries of the late nineteenth century. Maddock's publications included works on scientific, technical and religious subjects, as well as poetry, including Henry Kendall's Songs from the Mountains in 1880. The firm was bought out by William Dymock in 1896.
