BiographyHistory

John Naish served in the British Army (with His Majesty's Welsh Guards) during the Second World War. After moving to Queensland via London, he worked as a cane-cutter, labourer, miner, barman, clerk, grave-digger, bookmaker and fruit-picker, amongst other and varied occupations He spent two years in Fiji, returning to Australia permanently in 1958. The Oxford Companion to Australian Literature (1994) mentions two unpublished plays, 'The First Mrs Peters' and 'The Maoris'. These have not been traced.
