Mary Gilmore writes about Hugh Frewen (who was a relative of Winston Churchill):
'I have known Hugh Frewen for many years. I know of no one whose mind ranges as widely. He farms; propounds a long thought-out theory which accounts alike for the deserts and ice-ages of the world; has been an administrator in British West Africa; a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy; a company commander in France and Gallipoli, where he met his first Australians; a Special Service Officer in Northern Iraq; lives quietly in Australia; and would have made a great London editor' (Introduction to Imogene, viii).
