Peter Anderson has worked extensively in the Australian arts and cultural sector, including writing and editing, arts research and publishing, university and TAFE teaching, and the organisation of exhibitions, conferences and public events.

He worked full-time as a Teaching Fellow (media/cultural studies) in the Faculty of Humanities, Griffith University (1987-1992). He has subsequently taught as a guest lecturer on issues in the arts, as well as developing and teaching specialist visual arts industry and professional practice courses at Queensland University of Technology (2000/01) and the Brisbane Institute of TAFE (2001).

From the mid-1990s to 2001 he worked as a regular art critic and feature writer for Brisbane's daily newspaper, The Courier Mail.  He was the Managing Editor of Culture and Policy (1996/97), has edited publications for Artworkers Alliance, Craft Queensland and the Regional Galleries Association of Queensland, as well as holding editorial roles with Eyeline, Art&Text, RealTime, and Media International Australia.

Recent projects include the exhibition ephemeral traces: Brisbane’s artist-run scene in the 1980s for the Queensland University Art Museum (2016) and Available to everyone: Robert Jacks and Printed Matter for Printed Matter, New York (2016).

In 2017, he was undertaking a PhD in Creative Writing at Swinburne University.
