BiographyHistory

Choirmaster, music educator and author Franklin Sievright Peterson was appointed Ormond Professor of Music and Director of the Conservatorium, University of Melbourne, in 1900. In 1890, at Croydon, Surrey, United Kingdom, he married Georgette Augusta Christina Lichtenstein (artist Georgette A. C. Peterson). During Professor Peterson's tenure at the University of Melbourne, the building of the present-day Conservatorium began, and the foundation stone was laid by the key fundraiser for the project, Dame Nellie Melba.
