Archibald Gilchrist was a journalist and Congregational pastor. He was the son of prominent 19th century Sydney Presbyterian figure, Rev. Archibald Gilchrist (1843-1896). In the early 20th century Gilchrist moved to Carnarvon, in Western Australia, where he was for a time proprietor of the Northern Times. In 1914 he was elected as the Member for Gascoyne in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, his parliamentary term being interrupted during 1915-1916, when he served overseas with the Australian Army Medical Corps. In the 1920s Gilchrist and his wife moved to Melbourne, where he again worked as a journalist and was at one point active within the New Settlers League.
