Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, towards the end of the Second World War in 1944, Michael Leigh Chamberlain was the eldest son of Ivan and Greta Chamberlain.' Chamberlaind studied at the University of Canterbury and then accepted a call to ministry which required further study at Avondale College, the South Pacific Seventh-day Adventist tertiary college in Cooranbong, New South Wales.
Following graduation in 1969, Chamberlain and his wife, Lindy Chamberlain , moved to Tasmania and then to Queensland. Chamberlain became involved with the media producing radio scripts and writing newspaper columns. He also later gained a Masters degree and a PhD, and worked for the New South Wales Education Department.
Chamberlain was 'subjected to the dark side of reporting' after the death of his daughter Azaria Chamberlain at Uluru in 1980.
Chamberlain has written non-fiction titles including Cooranbong: First Town in Lake Macquarie (1997) and Beyond Azaria: Black Light White Light (1999).
