By his own account, Garry Ansell is a mix of mobs and histories. He was removed from his family at six years old and grew up in care in isolation from his family until he was fourteen. He completed little schooling and for many years could not write but at age forty-three, he went back to school and then went on to complete a Diploma in Aboriginal Studies and Education.
