'Tom Mann was born in 1856 in Foleshill, Warwickshire. He died in 1941 at Grassington, Yorkshire. Two major gaps exist in the record of his active career in the labour movement: one covers the years 1914-17; the second, and larger, his years in the Southern Hemisphere at the beginning of this century. The principal intention of this thesis is to provide a study of Mann's development in his Australasian years between 1901 and 1910.' (Thesis description)
