Margaret Leask was the administrator of the Australian Youth Performing Arts Association from its beginnings at the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust until September 1977.The directory she compiled of Australian play scripts for performance by children and young people was begun in 1971 when she was writing a BA Drama Honours thesis on the development of professional theatre in New South Wales schools.

Leask then went to London where she worked as a Touring Officer with the Arts Council of Great Britain.
