Alberto Dominguez worked for SBS radio for 13 years, from 1975 to 1988, and was a founding member of a number of cultural associations including the Uruguayan Club, the United Uruguayans, the Association of Spanish-Speaking Grandparents and the Latin American Relief Foundation (established following Hurricane Mitch in 1998). In 1979, he contributed a regular column to the Spanish language newspaper El Expreso.
According to friends, Dominguez considered himself a 'Spanish-speaking Australian,' and his civic contribution via public broadcasting was greatly valued by Sydney's Spanish-speaking community. Dominguez was aboard American Airlines flight 11 when it was flown into the northern tower of the World Trade Centre on 11 September 2001. [Source: 'The First Australian,' Bel Vidal]
