After her father's death, Millie Yarran Bruce led an itinerant lifestyle moving from family member to family member to avoid removal to a state facility. She and her siblings were, however, removed and then returned to their mother several times before being sent to Sister Kate's Home in Perth. Bruce holds a Associate Dipolma in Social Science.

Bruce's story was recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of Indigenous child separation edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
