Joyce Injie was born sometime during 1920s in the bush on Hamersley Station at a place called Marlumarlunha Springs. Her mother was Ada whose Aboriginal name was Mulli and her father was Toby whose Aboriginal name was Divin. Injie's father was from the Yindjibarndi people. As a young teenager, Injie was nearly taken by the Native Welfare but her parents decided to move to Rocklea Station to avoid Welfare and Injie worked as a house cleaner. Injie was married in 1942 and had ten children, eight of whom survived. After working on several stations with her husband and parents, she worked in the pub and later at Gilliamia Hostel in Onslow before retiring.
