BiographyHistory

Luis Sánchez-Cuñat is the author of numerous collections of short stories, novellas and novels, published in Spain before Sánchez-Cuñat came to Australia. Among these are Historias de mestizos (short stories, 1971), El criollo estaba con una india (short stories, 1970), Con resplandor de brasa en las espaldas (novella, 1974), En la muerte de Santa Cruz Jaramillo (novella, 1972), Mundo de hierba y agua (novella, 1974), Muerte de un guerrillero (novella, 1977) and El tifon y la conjura (novel, 1977) which was also translated into Portuguese and published in Brazil under the title Intriga no Barrio Chines (1983).

Since migrating to Australia, Sánchez-Cuñat has obtained his Ph.D (for a study of the works of Spanish poet Jorge Guillén) from Monash University and has lived in Adelaide. He became a Professor of Spanish at Flinders University and among his students was D.B.C. Pierre. In Australia, Sánchez-Cuñat continued to write in Spanish, with his work being published both here and overseas.
