BiographyHistory

Daisy Andrew was born at Cherrabun Station beside the creek near the homestead. She grew up on the station, listening to the stories told by her parents and grandparents and continued to work there with her father when she was a young girl. Her people were not given wages but received rations of tea, sugar, flour, tobacco, blankets and clothes to wear for their work.

She has been an active member of Mangkaja Arts at Fitzroy Crossing since it inception and paints from her recollections of her childhood and country in the 1930s . In 1994 she won the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award (Telstra Award) and her work is held in many public and private collections.
