Miriam Kuna was born in Australia of Jewish parents who migrated from Lodz, Poland. She spent her early childhood in the close-knit Jewish community of North Carlton and was educated at MacRobertson Girls High School and the University of Melbourne. She has worked variously in education, tour leading and fashion importing and retailing. She has also published instructional literature in the field of retail fashion.
