Sir George Knibbs was the Commonwealth Statistician (1906-21) after lecturing for several years in the Department of Engineering of Sydney University and serving as Director of Technical Education in New South Wales (1905-06). He was the author of technological and mathematical works and he established the Commonwealth Year Book in Australia.
