Actor, playwright and comedian Grahame Cooper studied English and drama at the University of Newcastle in the mid to late-1980s. He initially contributed material for university revues and after becoming involved with the local Footlice Theatre Company went on to write for theatre, radio and television. Among the people and shows that have utilised his material are Doug Mulray (Triple M Sydney), Fast Forward, Full Frontal, D-Generation and Richard Stubbs (Triple M Melbourne).

Cooper's locally-produced plays have been well received by audiences and Newcastle critics, with all being nominated for City of Newcastle Drama Awards (CONDA). His theatrical works include Harbourside Story (1992), Absence (1993), Heaven on Earth (1994) and Pyjamas in the Daytime (2014). The latter work won Best New Play at the 2014 City Of Newcastle Drama Awards. His association with Newcastle theatre has also seen him serve as president of the Footlice Theatre.

In the mid-1990s Cooper moved to Sydney to train as a diversional therapist. His work in this field has been, in part, the inspiration behind Pyjamas in the Daytime.

Coooper's debut novel, Vinegar, written in minimalist style, was published in 2016.
