BiographyHistory

Laurel Robinson was one of three original members of The Sapphires, the first popular Aboriginal all-female singing group. The other members were Maomi Mayers and Beverly Briggs. During the Vietnam War it was only two members, Laurel and her sister Lois Peeler (who was drafted in when Naomi and Beverly refused to go in protest against the war. Robinson's son Tony Briggs wrote the play based on the story of The Sapphires, which and has been adapted into a screenplay.
