Mr. Hatfield has taken up the tale of Lasseters reef, that magnetic attraction for prospectors and investors of wealth waiting to be rediscovered, and has woven around it a romance of exploration parties setting out under modern conditions of travel across the deserts of the heart of the continent, so that he has been able to convincingly include women, thereby providing the elements of loves and animosities, intrigue and adventure. His experiences in the back country, combined with his skill as a writer, have enabled him to put together a story with a background of sand and spinifex in unknown Australia, which will be found absorbing. The action moves with a quick tempo. Was the reef discovered? Which of the parties got back to civilisation with the gold secured? The reader will find the problems presented and worked out with the skill of a practised pen. It Is a closely-knit tale, and will be found to hold together with unfailing interest as the daily instalments appear.
