AbstractHistoryArchive Description
The reviewer for The Times described the play (in a somewhat negative review) as akin to a fairy tale:
The scene is Berlin, the ogre German Communism, the woodcutter's son a Social Democrat who lives with his brother in a deep, dark, deserted air-raid shelter, the princess or Cinderella, or however else you choose to see her, the lovely daughter of a father who will trade her to the American soldiery in exchange for cigarettes.'
