Rockhampton's first locally made film, The Winning of Betty was billed as a comedy. Local newspapers made much of the entirely local content of the film, including cast members and, as the Morning Bulletin notes, 'In dilfferent parts of the picture many resident citizens are also noticeable' (17 December 1927, p.3).
The plot followed two local politicians competing for both the election win and the hand in marriage of Betty the school-teacher.
