'Pearl Duncan was the first Aborigine to become a trained teacher in Australia and has taught in New South Wales, North Queensland, the Torres Strait Islands and New Zealand. She was a former member of the National Aboriginal Education Committee and studies for a B. Litt. in Anthropology at the Australian National University.'

Duncan had dedicated her life to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in Education. The Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarship, developed by the Queensland Government, to assist aspiring teacher who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, was named in honour of Pearl Duncan.
