- a short report on 'the latest novelty in colonial journalism, the Railway Pioneer, on the western line of railway'. The magazine is produced by one of the railway engineers 'without either press or chase - the matter being set in galleys, and the impression taken with a board and a huge stone. The Editor – who is typo, reporter, pressman, devil, &c., as well – has cast most of the types himself in moulds of clay and has manufactured his rules from roofing zinc' (p. 50).
