Epigraph: It must be remembered that any painting ... is essentially a flat surface covered with colours arranged in a certain order. - Maurice Denis
'Sir,' he said, with an air of intrigue, 'I believe I have invented another Method by which a Work of literature might be made.' My interest was scarce required for him to continue: 'Why, Sir, it is the method of Mosaic or Piecing, by which are laid down, side by side, fragments of meaning, without the necessity for one to be linked to its next by the usual ties of syntax.' I voiced surprise at this last concession. 'I see you are taken aback. You see mere Stultiloquy in such licence.' He smiled. 'I do not advance the Method, merely point to its possibility. And since it involves the placing together of Points or Flecks of Meaning, I call it Pointillism.' - Benjamin Harcourt
