AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Set against the background of a busy suburban practice, Meredith Hindmarsh, a thirty-something lawyer is not happy. Her husband, David Gruntley, is having an affair and they are headed for the Divorce Court. He rings her constantly, hassling for an unfair property settlement.

Meredith’s instincts desert her when financier, Jonathon Blackhook, pressures her to act for his son, Danny, who has been charged with fraud and conspiracy. Partly out of respect for her late friend Charles, Danny’s previous lawyer, and partly to get the bank manager off her back, she agrees.

Meredith soon finds herself questioning the motives of barrister, Brian Jadson. Does he really have his client’s interests at heart?

Sarah Downley-Byrne introduces Meredith to Martin Duesbury. Is he really a Commonwealth spook? Should she trust him? After her husband’s infidelity, she’s wary of good–looking charming men. What is the connection between Martin Duesbury and Danny Blackhook?

Meredith is shot. Flash drives disappear then reappear. Her home is burgled. How is this related to Danny? Where did Charles hide his files? What does Basil from the Law Society know?

'She finds out more about her husband and the underworld of law than she wants to as she tries to prove Danny innocent of the charges and resist whoever wants her stopped. ' (Publication summary)
