AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Angered by recent discussions regarding possible changes to the Australian flag, including removing the Union Jack, Chandler writes about the significance of flags as both symbols and in terms of history. He recalls for example the use of flags as a means of communication when radio silence was imposed on ship conoys during the Second World War.
