BiographyHistory

Australian psychedelic rock band, The Church was initially associated with new wave, neo-psychedelia and indie rock. The bands founding members were lead vocalist and bass guitarist Steve Kilbey, guitarists Peter Koppes and Marty Wilson-Piper and drummer Nick Ward, who first started recording in Kilbey's Rozelle home. The band's debut album in 1981 was called Of Skins and Heart, and in 1988 returned to the charts with the album Starfish and the US Top 40 hit and award-winning single Under the Milky Way. In 2011 the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in Sydney, and the band continues to tour and record.
