AUSTLIT PRIVACY POLICY

AustLit: The Australian Literature Resource is committed to protecting the privacy of AustLit users, and of the Australian writers described in AustLit.

Privacy for Writers

AustLit complies with the NSW Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and other similar Privacy Protection Acts.

Under these acts, information about individuals can be stored and published if:

  • the information is contained in a publicly available document
  • personal information has been provided by the individual to whom the information relates, and that individual is aware of the purposes for which the information is being collected.

All information on writers published by AustLit is either publicly available, or has been provided by writers on request by AustLit or its constituent partners. While AustLit may hold writers' addresses for the purposes of communication and copyright protection, it will never make such addresses available to any member of the public.

Privacy for Users
Your Privacy
AustLit respects the privacy of our service users. When you write to us with comments, queries or suggestions, you may provide us with personal information including your email address. Your personal information will never be made available to a third party.
Use of Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of information that a web site transfers to an individual computer's hard drive for the purpose of keeping records. When you search AustLit, we use a temporary cookie to keep track of which searches you have undertaken, and which parts of the AustLit site you have visited. This temporary cookie expires when you close your AustLit session. We will never use a cookie to retrieve information from your computer.

You may receive cookies from web sites that AustLit links to. AustLit does not control these cookies, and they are not subject to our policies. When you link to a site from AustLit, you are subject to the Terms and Conditions and Policies of the relevant site.

Web Server
The AustLit website server collects domain names (but not individual email addresses) of visitors to the service. This information is aggregated to measure the number of visits, pages viewed, searches undertaken and average time spent at the site. AustLit uses this information to measure use of our site, to provide subscribers with aggregated data on level and type of use, and to improve content and services.
